ONE-ON-ONE CONNECTIONS

Meet people through
something you both enjoy.

You do not need the same life story to enjoy talking. A song, a game, a recipe or a weekend project can give a conversation somewhere to begin.

Make your interest specific enough to answer

“I like music” is a starting point, but it gives someone a large subject to work with. “I have been listening to acoustic covers this week” offers a detail they can respond to. The goal is to make joining the conversation easy, not to prove how much you know.

Choose two or three things you currently enjoy, including a small everyday interest. You do not need a remarkable hobby. Trying a new sandwich, learning a few chords or finishing a puzzle can lead to a better exchange than a long list of impressive labels.

Turn a shared interest into a real exchange

InterestAn opening questionA follow-up
MusicWhat have you had on repeat lately? What do you like about that track?
CookingWhat do you enjoy making when you have time?Did you learn it from someone or experiment?
GamesWhat kind of game do you come back to?Do you enjoy the story, the strategy or the company?
Creative hobbiesWhat are you working on at the moment?Which part has been the most satisfying?

Use one row as a starting point, then share your own answer. A question followed by your own small story gives the other person a choice about where to take the conversation.

Be curious when your tastes differ

Shared interests do not require identical favorites. Two people can both enjoy films and prefer completely different genres. Ask what makes the other person’s choice interesting rather than trying to rank it against your own.

If a hobby is new to you, invite a beginner-friendly explanation: “What would you tell someone trying it for the first time?” Let them decide how much to explain. Avoid testing their knowledge or asking them to defend whether they count as a real fan.

Try a small conversation activity

Choose one recommendation each and explain the reason behind it. For books, describe the feeling of a favorite story without spoilers. For cooking, imagine a three-ingredient meal. For travel, discuss the kind of place you enjoy without asking for an exact current location.

You can also compare how you got interested in the subject. That moves beyond lists of favorites into personal stories while leaving control over what each person shares. If the activity feels forced, stop and return to ordinary conversation.

Explore common ground on HIYAK

HIYAK offers one-on-one social video conversations. After logging in, use the information people choose to share and the options actually available in your version to find a starting point. This page does not promise an interest-matching filter or a guaranteed match.

If you both enjoy the exchange, mention one topic you might return to next time. “I would like to hear how that project goes” is more natural than asking for an immediate commitment to friendship. Let repeated, mutually welcome conversations determine what comes next.

Questions, answered.

Do we need the same hobbies to enjoy a call?

No. A shared interest can help, but curiosity about a different interest can also lead to a good conversation.

Does HIYAK guarantee matching by interest?

No such guarantee is made here. Check the people, profile information and discovery options available inside your current version of HIYAK.

What if I do not have an unusual hobby?

Talk about something ordinary that you enjoy now. A specific everyday detail is easier to respond to than an impressive but vague list.
