What is one-on-one video chat?

A one-on-one video chat is a live conversation between two people. You may also see it called 1v1, one-to-one or 1-on-1 video calling. Those names describe the same basic format: you and one other participant.

That format is useful when you want to hear someone’s full answer, ask questions without competing with a group and build a conversation around a shared interest. On HIYAK, it is a way to meet and talk with new people, rather than a public broadcast to an audience.

2. Check the details

   After signing in, look at the available call options, the other person’s availability and any coin charge. Choose a call only when you are ready.

3. Start with one simple question

   Say hello, check that you can hear each other and ask about an interest. Leave enough space for an answer.

Two people, without the group-call pressure

A smaller conversation can make it easier to follow a story. If someone mentions cooking, ask what they enjoy making. Share your own answer before moving to another topic, so the call feels like an exchange rather than an interview.

If the conversation pauses, you can change the subject or finish politely. A successful first call does not have to be long. The important part is that both people choose to participate.

What “one-on-one” does and does not mean

One-on-one describes the number of participants. It does not automatically mean anonymous, unrecordable or end-to-end encrypted. Keep personal documents, passwords and other sensitive information off camera, and read the service’s privacy information.

It also does not guarantee an immediate answer. People may be offline, already in a call or simply unavailable. Give them time and avoid repeated call attempts.
