Start with the physical device
- Open the camera shutter or remove a lens cover.
- Check the mute switch on your headset or microphone.
- Reconnect an external camera or headset if the connection is loose.
- Close another app that may be using the same camera.
- If the service offers a device selector, choose the intended camera and microphone.
A Bluetooth headset can be connected while a different microphone remains selected. If you can hear someone but they cannot hear you, check the input device as well as the speaker volume.
Check permission for the calling site
Your browser can allow or block a site’s access to the camera and microphone. While you are on the calling site, open its site information or permission settings and review both permissions. The exact controls vary with browser and version.
For HIYAK Web, check permissions for web.hiyak.com. Permission given to another website does not automatically apply to this subdomain. Reload the calling page after changing a setting if the service asks you to do so.
See the official Chrome camera and microphone help or Safari website settings guide for the current controls.
Check the device-level permission too
Your operating system may separately control whether a browser can use the camera or microphone. If site permission is allowed but the device still does not work, review the privacy or permission settings for the browser application on your computer or phone.
On a work or school device, an administrator may restrict these permissions. Do not disable security controls or install an unknown extension to get around a restriction. Use an appropriate supported device or contact the administrator.
Match the symptom to the next check
| What you notice | What to check next |
|---|---|
| A black camera preview | Lens cover, selected camera and competing camera apps. |
| No microphone input | Mute switch, selected input and both permission layers. |
| You hear an echo | Try headphones and lower speaker volume. |
| Broken audio or frozen video | Connection stability, large downloads and other heavy apps. |
| No permission prompt | The site may already be blocked, or device-level access may be disabled. |
If the problem continues
Update your browser and try the setup again. If you contact HIYAK support, include your browser and device type, the symptom and the step where it happens. A screenshot of a harmless error can help; remove personal information first.
Do not send passwords, login codes or payment details. This guide covers common browser permission issues, not a guarantee that every browser or device supports every HIYAK feature.
